40MW! Weichai Generator Sets Perform Strong in Hot and Humid Conditions, Safeguarding Ore Mining Operations

Recently, an Indonesian diesel power plant project equipped with Weichai Baudouin 12M55 engine driven generator sets, with a total installed capacity of 40 MW, successfully passed customer acceptance. Under harsh operating conditions featuring high temperatures and high humidity, the project has already operated efficiently for more than 2,000 hours.

The diesel power plant project is located at a hydrometallurgical smelting and beneficiation facility of a laterite nickel mine in Indonesia. Twenty Weichai Baudouin 12M55 engine driven generator sets, each rated at 2,000 kW, operate around the clock, providing an efficient and reliable power supply for mining, beneficiation and smelting operations, as well as administrative offices and living camps.

Located near the coast, the site features a hot and humid climate, with average humidity reaching 82.5%. In response to local environmental conditions and customer requirements, Weichai delivered a one-stop power solution through integrated electrical systems, a centralized monitoring system and a fuel system. Even under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, the generator sets have maintained strong operating performance.

From project design and construction onward, Weichai worked closely with the customer on generator set selection, installation and testing, improving project execution and operational efficiency. The reliable operation of the power plant is also supported by Weichai engineers’ attentive service. In the hot and humid local environment, service engineers were drenched in sweat within minutes, yet they persisted through commissioning work in 40°C conditions, successfully delivering high-performing units and providing thorough operator training.

The customer has repeatedly praised the generator sets’ real-world fuel consumption performance and operational reliability.
